Chris Mack (Xavier) presents the 2012 Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award, to Loyola Maryland's Jimmy Patsos, at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet in New Orleans.

March 30, 2012

NEW ORLEANS, LA -- Loyola Maryland's Jimmy Patsos is the recipient of the 2012 Skip Prosser Man of the Year award.

Patsos recently completed his eighth season at Loyola, a year in which he guided the Greyhounds to a 24-9 overall record and the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship. Loyola set numerous program records during the season and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1994.

"Jimmy Patsos took over a program going nowhere fast," said Angela Lento, co-founder of CollegeInsider.com. "He has done an incredible job of changing the culture of the program, which is now a contender in the MAAC. More importantly Jimmy is a first class individual off the court. He truly represents all the things that Coach Prosser loved to see in a coach."

During the season, the Greyhounds accomplished many firsts and milestones. Loyola finished with a 24-9 overall record and went 13-5 during the MAAC regular season. The 24 wins were the most since the 1948-1949 team set a school record with 25 victories, and the 13 conference wins set a program best, as well.

Prosser and Patsos are the only coaches to lead Loyola to the NCAA Tournament. Prosser's 1994 squad is the only other in school history to accomplish the feat.

The Skip Prosser Award was established in 2008 to honor those who not only achieve success on the basketball court but who display moral integrity off of it as well. Prosser posted a career record of 291-146 in 14 seasons as a head coach. During his time at Wake Forest, his teams averaged 21 wins per season while playing in arguably the nation's most difficult league, the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The award was presented at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet in New Orleans, site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
